OUR STORY

Steve and Juanita separately received their God-given, nearly identical visions to start a café-style church in 2003 while posted with the Canadian Armed Forces in Australia. On return to Canada in 2006, Steve and Juanita began to build a team and the vision for a church that would be specifically focused on reaching people who wouldn’t normally find themselves interested in Christ, church or Christianity. Café Church opened in doors in September 2007 as a semi-autonomous ministry within Bethel Church, became an independent church in its own right in 2009, and joined the Evangelical Missionary Church of Canada family in 2013. Steve has served as Café Church’s Senior Pastor since its founding on a volunteer, part-time basis. He and Juanita love hanging out with people who don’t know Jesus yet. They had both been heavily involved in Alpha Ministry prior to launching Café Church.

Steve is a retired Canadian Army Officer who now works full time for the Canadian Army as a contracted employee. Steve recently completed a Masters of Theological Studies at Tyndale Seminary. He is an active member of Downtown Kingston Toastmasters (which meets weekly at Café Church). He and his wife Juanita (a terrific cook and gardener), are the proud parents of five children, a terrific son-in-law and daughter-in-law, and are grandparents to four wonderful grandchildren.
